Advances in Free Tissue Transfer
Abstract
Recent advancements in free tissue transfers for head and neck reconstruction have profoundly enhanced surgical outcomes. Improved understanding and wider adoption of free flaps have broadened the adaptability and success rates of these procedures. Refined microsurgical techniques and perioperative management have yielded success rates surpassing 95%. These innovations facilitate more extensive tumor resections, ultimately enhancing survival rates for patients with head and neck malignancies.
Learning Objectives
1.) Identifying factors influencing reconstructive options
2.) Proper Work-up for patients undergoing free tissue transfer
3.) Advances in soft-tissue and hard-tissue microvascular reconstruction
