Abstract

The need for definitive alveolar reconstruction is a necessary component of staged management of the cleft lip and palate deformity.  Over the years, multiple techniques, graft sources, and timing sequences have been advocated.  This discussion will provide an overview of the current trends as well as controversies surrounding the reconstruction of the commonly seen cleft deformities.  It will provide a better understanding of the application of regenerative technology in the management of alveolar cleft defects.

Learning Objectives

  • The participant will have the opportunity to review common features of alveolar clefts with an emphasis on those conditions that are most germane to the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice.
  • The participant will have a better understanding of the most contemporary techniques involved in the surgical management of alveolar clefts.
  • The participant will have a better understanding of the applications of regenerative technology in the management of alveolar cleft defects, it’s limitations and indications.
