Alan Herford is New Chair of Osteo Science Foundation Board
Alan S. Herford, DDS, MD, has recently been elected to the role of Board Chair for Osteo Science Foundation, following the completion of Dr. Peter K. Moy’s two-year term in June 2018.
Dr. Herford is a founding board member of Osteo Science Foundation and brings with him an extensive background in clinical research on reconstructive surgery and maxillofacial trauma.
As a member of OSCF, Dr. Herford has represented the organization at prominent research symposiums. In 2015, he was a featured presenter at the Western Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons’ (WSOMS) 42nd Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon. And in February of 2019, he is scheduled to present as one of seven outstanding Oral and CranioMaxillofacial surgeons at Osteo Science Foundation’s Meeting in Nashville – a two-day event that offers a unique opportunity to hear from leaders in the field and learn about the latest advancement in regenerative medicine.
In addition to his work with OSCF, Dr. Herford is also the Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, California – his alma mater. He also holds a medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Dr. Herford has authored multiple publications and has presented his original research at both national and international meetings. He was recently awarded the Laskin Award, which is given to the authors of the most outstanding article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for that year. Dr. Herford is the primary author on numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications on topics ranging from reconstructing skin cancer defects to the use of growth factors to rebuild jaw defects. He has recently written book chapters on treatment of mandibular fractures, facial flaps, and treatment of soft tissue injuries.
