Research drives progress. That’s why Osteo Science Foundation invests in scientific research on the most effective surgical techniques and clinical utilization of biomaterials and biologics. Through a variety of research grant opportunities, our aim is to create a strong foundation of preliminary evidence to foster scientific progress.

We promote forward-thinking, applied research in the area of hard and soft tissue regeneration with a focus on Oral and CranioMaxillofacial Surgery. The projects we fund represent the next generation of research in our specialty and are aligned with the mission of Osteo Science Foundation so that new developments and treatment concepts can be made available at the clinical level more quickly and backed by adequate evidence-based results.

Research and Grant Programs

Osteo Science Foundation funds a diverse portfolio of scientific research through the following grant opportunities:

  • Peter Geistlich Research Awards
  • Philip J. Boyne Junior Faculty Research Awards
  • Resident Research Awards
  • AAOMS Travel Awards

Grant opportunities are offered to distinct populations within the specialty, including Residents and Fellows, Junior Faculty, and Clinical and Medical Researchers. The Foundation also sponsors grant awards that support both the clinical training of select professionals as well as the attendance of residents and faculty at important AAOMS research and educational meetings.

Examples of acceptable selection criteria might include:

  • Testing of biologic materials
  • Clinically relevant issues in the field of tissue regeneration and engineering
  • Expanding the knowledge base on questions underlying indications in oral, cranial, and
    maxillofacial areas.
    • Benefit for Universities: new aspects in research and education, respective recommendations for practice
    • Benefit for Industry: relevance for products either established or in development

1 All projects must include an oral surgeon affiliated with the project. All applicants must be in the U.S. or Canada.
2 Faculty must be within the first 5 years of their faculty appointment at the time of application and must have a mentor affiliated with the project.
3 Awards are inclusive of indirect costs, which are capped at 10%.
