Peter E. Larsen, DDS, is the Chair, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology, and the Larry J. Peterson Endowed Professor at The Ohio State University. Dr. Larsen obtained his dental degree from Creighton University in 1983 and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma in 1987.
Dr. Larsen’s research interests are focused around translational studies and clinical applications relevant to oral cancer chemoprevention. His studies entail determination of pharmacokinetic properties of chemopreventive formulations prior to clinical use and human clinical trials to determine efficacy of local delivery chemopreventive formulations on premalignant oral lesions.
As a clinician, Dr. Larsen’s areas of focus are in reconstruction of patients with complex restorative needs utilizing dental implants, including surgical preparation of sites requiring grafts to restore jaw continuity and bone volume, as well as implant treatment in children and adolescents, particularly those with multiple missing teeth; orthognathic surgery; management of patients with cleft lip and palate, focusing on participation in a cleft team emphasizing grafting of alveolar cleft patients and orthognathic surgery in cleft patients; and routine dentoalveolar surgery, including extraction of third molars.
Dr. Larsen has published extensively on topics related to his research.
